OOM: one of a number of visits from Sam Linnfer

When Cal and Sam arrived from Milliways, they lost no time in hitting the shower: sand in the bed isn't much fun for anyone, after all.

So now the bottom of Cal's tub is finely coated with sand, but the bed is comfortably sand-free for post-coital lounging.

Cal gently smooths a bit of hair back behind Sam's ear. (It stays for half a second before falling back into its previous untidy position.)

"That depends," he says. "If I am, will you stop saying it?"

"...I'll think about it?"

He will, too! He might even stop... but only once he's settled on a replacement name.

"Yeah, yeah," Cal says. "I'll believe that when I see it."

Hear it. Whatever.

The way he kisses Sam indicates that he might not be too upset, though.

Sam is rapidly getting that impression.

He kisses back: Cal has a very useful ability to make him forget what he was angsting about, at least for a while.

Cal strokes Sam's cheek with the backs of his fingers, kissing him a little more softly than usual.

Which, obviously, is Sam's reward for reconsidering "dork," and nothing more.

Obviously, obviously.

Sam makes a soft sound, curled close against Cal and wanting more.

If Cal could draw him closer, he would, but there isn't a lot of space left to draw him into. Continuing to kiss him, and stroke his cheek, just like this, will have to do.

And it is enough, Sam thinks, really; enough to remember that he's here, and that the now is worth the later.

It is, at least, more than enough to make him smile at Cal, when they break.

"Favourite."

Cal's hand rests lightly against Sam's face; he hasn't moved it away just yet.

"I need a nickname for you," he tells Sam. He isn't really the nickname type, but he's going to need something to break out to counter Favorite, now that he's pretty much okay with it again.

Sam laughs. "One coming from someone I like will make a change."

He nudges his head lightly into Cal's hand. "Any ideas?"

Cal interprets this as a hint to resume stroking, which he does.

". . . No," he admits.

Hint or no, that is not something Sam will be complaining about any time soon.

"You're no fun," he says, but turns his head briefly to kiss Cal's palm.

Cal smiles a little.

"I suck at nicknames," he says.

Innocently, "Amongst other things."

Yeah, Cal knew the second that came out of his mouth that Sam would have something to say about it.

"Oh, yeah? Like what?"

"Quite a few things, really," Sam smirks. "You're developing some serious talent there."

Of course, there were some areas where he already had it.

Cal laughs softly.

"Flatterer."

Clichéd flatterer.

It is not Sam's fault if the old lines are the most fun.

"It's a talent," he agrees, brightly.

"I like your talents," Cal tells him.

Hey, he didn't say flattery was a bad thing.

"Good," Sam says, smiling. "I'd be sad if you didn't."

"And I'd be bored if I didn't."

Can't have that.

"And I would never want you to be bored."

Sam hopes he is exciting enough for Cal!

Cal is still stroking Sam's cheek with slow, leisurely little motions.

"Better keep me entertained, then."

Mmmm.

"Am I not entertaining enough for you already?"

"For now," Cal murmurs. "Just don't fall down on the job."

That would be unfortunate. And boring.
